The Blanket - A Journal of Protest & Dissent

Stand Down, Mr Hyde

Liam O Comain • 28 February, 2004

Is it not time for the Provisionals to decommission Mr. Hyde and allow Dr. Jekyll to get on with helping the unionists to govern this statelet on behalf of the British Government.

Now that they have become part and parcel of the partitionist set up there is no logic for the Provisionals having a military wing. Unless its continual existence arises from the alleged statement of a member of the Policing Board that de Valera knew how to deal with dissinters or dissidents. Thank God that was not the fate of young Tohill.

The continual mantra issued by Martin McGuinness of denial, half truths, and untruths is beginning to wear thin and the Provisionals should solidify their embracement of partitionism by standing down their military wing and let authentic republicans get on with opposing partition and the British presence.

The media should also bear in mind that once the Provisionals decided to enter Stormont and Leinster House they are no longer entitled to be called the 'IRA' for the authentic IRA owes its allegiance to the 32 county Irish Republic proclaimed in 1916 and refuses to recognise or participate in the partitionist parliaments. In conclusion, to borrow words from one of the Provisional leaders, the authentic IRA has not gone away.

All censorships exist to prevent any one from challenging current conceptions and existing institutions. All progress is initiated by challenging current conceptions, and executed by supplanting existing institutions. Consequently the first condition of progress is the removal of censorships.
- George Bernard Shaw
