The
President of the United States of America, the Director
of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Attorney
General and the Secretary of the Office of Homeland
Security announced to America today that the Bush
Administration is raising the level of terror.
President
George Walker Bush "got credible intelligence"
from "multiple sources" but none of them
were members of his Cabinet.
Americans
are instructed to "up their terror one notch
from Yellow to Orange", today, or maybe from
today until the end of Muslim Hajj in mid-February,
or maybe longer or not that long. Valentine's Day
celebrations should not be confused with a tweak to
up-notch to the Red Condition. The Administration
is unsure if Americans will be permitted to notch-down
and resume Yellow terror after February 14th. The
Orange warning did not specify why it is that there
is an Orange alert in America, of all places.
If Americans are permitted to return to the Blue or
Green Conditions during the 21st century, they will
be commanded to remain on alert while "refining
and exercising" in the event of sudden and likely
Yellow, Orange or Red restorations. The Administration
did not comment on the time frame in which they anticipate
the much-desired Blue-ness and Green-ness will be
restored to America, if ever. Certainly those color
conditions are not expected to be implemented during
the Bush Administration's and Allied Countries' protracted
economilitary occupation of Iraq's oilfields and the
concomitant occupation of other countries in proximity
to the secret Caspian Basin oil reserves, or any other
oil reserves.
While
the Bush Administration is putting Americans in terror
due to the holy Hajj, Muslim faithful making their
sacred pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, are expected
to be concentrating on preparing for the journey and
for the welfare of loved ones remaining behind at
home, redressing wrongs they have done to others,
paying debts they have incurred, and maintaining proper
conduct throughout the pilgrimage as per Islamic law.
The
FBI said today they want Americans to "go out
and find Mohammed Sher Mohammed Khan." One guy
or two guys? The FBI said they do not have any evidence
to link him/them with terrorism but the FBI wants
Americans to find him/them anyway. A description of
the person(s) did not accompany the alert.
The Office of Homeland Security, the FBI and the CIA
are pinpointing target locations. The imminent attack
will come from within the US borders or outside of
them, the East Coast or the West Coast, somewhere
in the Midwest, the South, perhaps Florida, or maybe
someplace like Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt,
Gibraltar, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan,
Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine,
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, the Straits of Hormuz,
Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates,
Yemen, or elsewhere.
The Bush Administration announced that the attacks
will be biological, chemical or radiological, all
of the above, or none of the above. Soft targets could
be attacked and they will be attacked hard. Hotels
owned or frequented by Jewish people could be attacked.
Hotels owned or frequented by non-Jewish people could
be attacked. Transportation centers could be attacked.
Economic centers could be attacked. Energy centers
could be attacked. Apartment buildings could be attacked.
Anything could be attacked and will be. Government
sources have described the credibility of the information
to be questionable.
Americans are advised not to change domestic, work,
leisure or travel plans but are cautioned to maintain
terror at all times; take some time in the next few
days while at home or during work, leisure and travel
to prepare for the upcoming emergency they will experience;
study the methodology of the various types of terror
attacks and what to do while experiencing one; refresh
themselves on how to cover and duck; make a plan for
where to meet family members after the terrorist attack
is over; and, be aware of their surroundings and the
events happening around them. Sources close to The
President said that he is being made aware of his
surroundings and the events happening around him.
Meanwhile, it is rumored that Attorney General John
Ashcroft's draft of a bill to super-enhance the fight
in the terror looming over America, Domestic Security
Enhancement of 2003, 'Patriot Act II', is nearing
implementation although it has not been released by
the Department of Justice, the House Judiciary Committee
"has not heard anything about it although [they]
would be interested" and the Senate Judiciary
Committee was told there was "no such legislation
in the works" after making an inquiry during
the same week that the Center for Public Integrity
obtained a copy of the draft.
The replacement for Patriot Act I will give the US
government more broad and more sweeping newer powers
"to increase domestic intelligence-gathering,
surveillance and law enforcement prerogatives, and
simultaneously decrease judicial review and public
access to information."
Patriot
Act II was analyzed by Dr. David Cole, Georgetown
University Law professor, expert in constitutional
law, criminal procedures and federal courts, and author
of numerous books on civil liberties and democracy
including Terrorism and The Constitution.
Cole said that the proposed legislation "would
radically expand law enforcement and intelligence
gathering authorities, reduce or eliminate judicial
oversight over surveillance, authorize secret arrests,
create a DNA database based on unchecked executive
'suspicion,' create new death penalties, and even
seek to take American citizenship away from persons
who belong to or support disfavored political groups."
Cole found it "troubling" that the US Congress
has not been consulted regarding the proposed legislation.
"It raises a lot of serious concerns and is troubling
as a generic matter that they have gotten this far
along and tell people that there is nothing in the
works. What that suggests is that they're waiting
for a propitious time to introduce it, which might
well be when a war is begun. At that time there would
be less opportunity for discussion and they'll have
a much stronger hand in saying that they need these
right away."
The
Office of Homeland Security advised Americans today
to "continue to persevere in the face of this
evil."
We will.
