Irish
Republicism is a great and grand thing. We Irish Americans
should copy it and then maybe, just maybe, we would
have decent leaders here in this country who would
stop imperialism in all its ugly forms. Gee, that
must sound strange coming from an Irish American like
myself. The fact is you can't support Irish Republicism,
send money and in the old days, send material to Ireland
without looking at your own homeland situation. We
need a revolution of the mind here in America. We
certainly need decent leadership.
Every
former IPOW and every SF person that I have known
and even met briefly stand head and shoulders above
the God awful American political leaders. I'm 57 years
old and I can't remember all of the countries that
my country has sent troops to in my lifetime. All
of those bombs dropped on civilians across the globe
and we Irish Americans were using up our time and
money supporting SF and the RA.
Yes
it was time well spent and the cause of Ireland was
and is good, but we should have done something here
in America to stop those leaders in Washington who
send young boys off to die in strange places. We should
have stopped those leaders who buy elections and bomb
defenseless people across the world. We should have
changed America and then change Ireland. That was
our mistake. At the time the people in the six counties
were suffering so much that it seemed so urgent to
focus on Ireland. Some critics would rightly say that
it is safer to support Irish Republicanism from afar
than to actually follow the principles of Irish Republicism
at home. That is a valid point of view.
So
here we are today with SF growing in Ireland and America
at war across the globe. SF leaders are capable of
serious analysis of the Irish movement and American
pols can't seem to understand that 911 began when
America got involved in other people's affairs. There's
not a dimes worth of difference between American Republicans
and Democrats. If only we had a Sinn Fein party here
in America. Could you just imagine the world if America
was lead by Irish Republicans!
We
should have changed America first and then supported
old Ireland.
