If
Donaldson turned because he wanted to end the war
he knew was counter-productive to Irish unity and
well-being, and his role was political, hats off to
him! MOREOVER, if he was a verifier (aided the Brits
in a "trust but verify" operation) someone should
buy him a drink. Finally, he was instrumental to steering
militant "American shit-stirrers" to supporting the
political process SF is engaged in, rather than keeping
the shit going from a distance (and undermining human
rights and critical American foreign relations with
Britain). AND, it would seem he accomplished these
things without maiming, killing, or sending any to
jail. The man is obviously a true professional.
Had
he been totally honest with his public confession,
rather than claiming his arm was twisted and contriving
a tall-tale to claim Stormontgate was "British plot",
I would say nominate him for Sainthood. However, public
honesty is a skill many in the North on all sides,
are just beginning to engage in. If, with the passing
of time, he tells the full truth, Irish "history"
(post unification) will remember him as a patriot
who played a genuine role in bringing about peace
and Irish unity. Many Irish Republicans can not fathom
this because they fail to see how counter-productive
their activities have been to Irish unity.
The
full passage of time will record the unionist side
of this conflict and expose the full effect Irish
Republican activities had on Ireland, as well as the
negative effect unionist had on Irish Republicans.
At that point, some names now besmirched will be recalled
and viewed in a far different light. Now that the
shock of having what was already long known (Brits
had spies in SF....gee, imagine that, and how many
did the IRA have in Britain and the USA? I would hope
after 30 years all sides had infiltrated the other
side, less they be totally incompetent) confirmed
is past, can NI get on with the business of the day
and reinstate the assembly please?
